Do I need a new Garage Door?

Over time, wooden garage doors may crack, warp and become misaligned. Doors made of other materials may dent, crack or otherwise lose their functionality.  As a result, the largest moving part of your house may become unsightly, drafty and/or difficult to lift. See if any of the following statements apply to your garage door.

  • My Garage Door sags in the middle and it looks like it's smiling at me.
  • There are gaps at each side of the door. I thought it was the slab, but it could be the door.
  • I can see daylight through the panels.
  • When the door is open the center of the door hits the top of my car.
  • My door is very heavy.
  • My door is the original door for this home and it's more than 15 years old.
  • I have tightened the hinges and they still keep coming loose.

A dysfunctional overhead door can be very frustrating for you, and can be vulnerable to theft of your belongings. We know how important it is for you to keep your family safe and secure. However, most of us put off repairing our garage doors, despite the fact that they are the largest moving object in our home and it is certainly capable of injury or even worse. Statistics are available on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), website.

So if you have a combination of any or all of the above, chances are you really do need a new door. The only way to find out is to have us take a look. Never assume you need a new door, because maybe it can be repaired.

Give us a call and we'll schedule a convenient time to take a look.

How Can I be Sure About Which Garage Door Company to Buy From?

Unfortunately in Colorado the garage door industry is not strictly monitored. There are many fly-by-night companies that are not adequately insured and do not need to stand by their work because they won't exist in 6 months. When you buy a new door look for a company that:

  • Carries the necessary insurance.
  • Provides warranties on the parts and labor of your new garage door.
  • Has Technicians that are well trained.
  • Is professional and courteous at all times
  • Supplies references from previous customers upon request.
  • Has been in business for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Is an authorized Dealer.
We highly recommend you check out all potential companies, you are considering doing business with. Just because they are a "Better Business Member" does not mean they have a clean record. You must check out their stats on the BBB website.
Give us a call... we are happy to answer any questions.

Do I need a new Garage Door Operating System (opener)

It depends on the age, the older it is, the more parts are wearing out. If it doesn't have photo sensors, then it may become an issue when if you need to sell your home. Some inspectors point this out and others don't. Either way for safety's sake, it's far better to have photo sensors than not have them. Typically we would repair an opener unless the above criteria has not been met. However there are certain circumstances where we just leave the opener when we replace a new door. If you are retired and don't feel the need, then who are we to argue. We wouldn't want to either. Each "Job" is taken on it's merits, and we never try to sell you something you don't need.

Steel Garage Doors

Without a doubt Steel is the the most popular material used for garage doors today because of its durability. Steel will look great forever and with such busy lives, we all want less to do. So since most manufacturers use a baked on type finish, the advantage of having a  virtually maintenance-free garage door is an obvious plus.  It also has the advantage of being the least expensive garage door available. So whether you are looking to improve the look of your home with a carriage house style door or simply you want something more basic, steel doors are a great choice.

Custom Garage Doors

In addition to the you may also consider doors that are unique and offer options to match your home's design. These doors can reflect styles from the old world doors, with decorative hand-forged hardware and architectural glass options. There are so many options available, so when it comes to custom doors, we say, if you can draw it, then we can make it. Custom garage doors offer many architectural styles to complement your home's design. Here at Doors Done Right, we understand that Custom Doors are the epitome of grandeur and elegance, and we help you with the design process all the way to the completion of the installed door. Please check out our beautiful Dynasty Doors.

Warranty – How Well Do I Understand It?

Nearly every garage door comes with a warranty of some kind. Many companies claim they have a lifetime warranty but don't cover everything. Garage doors have many parts: rollers, cables, springs, door panels, etc. Find out what parts the warranty covers. When you read the fine print, you may find that the warranty does not cover warping, splitting, cracking, denting, or rusting and then limits parts to one year. When shopping you want to make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
